Why import weight at all
Weight is easiest to interpret as a trend over weeks, which needs readings that keep coming. NIDDK notes that results with weight-management medicines vary by medicine and by person, and that health care professionals look at the change after 12 weeks on the full dose when deciding whether a medicine should be continued [3].
Those are decisions for your clinician. An import simply makes sure the readings your scale already takes end up in the same place as your doses, without retyping.
What PepLabo reads
- Weight, sleep, and steps with active energy, shown as three rows under Read only.
- The last 14 days, as daily totals and latest values.
- Nothing is read until you allow it, and with the switch off the screen says “Off — nothing is read.”
- PepLabo never writes to Apple Health or Health Connect [5].
- On Android, a separate Health Connect & privacy screen lists the four types (steps, active calories burned, weight, sleep) and explains why they are read.
Connecting on iPhone
Open Settings › Data & connections › Apple Health, turn on Import from Apple Health and tap Connect Apple Health. If your plan does not include Pro, the row carries a Pro badge and these steps open the Pro screen first. iPhone then shows its own permission sheet, where you choose the types PepLabo may read.
Apple Health does not tell apps which types you allowed. Apple’s developer documentation explains that, as a privacy protection, an app cannot tell whether reading was granted or denied [4], so PepLabo shows “Connected · permissions live in Apple Health” rather than guessing. If nothing arrives, check from the Health side. Apple’s support page describes the route: in the Health app, tap your profile, then Apps under Privacy, pick the app and turn on the categories you want it to use [1].
Connecting on Android
On Android the same screen is called Health Connect. If Health Connect is missing or out of date, PepLabo says so and offers Get Health Connect on Google Play. Once connected, Manage permissions in Health Connect opens the system screen.
Google’s help pages explain that permissions are managed in Health Connect under Permissions and data › App permissions, where you can switch off reading for specific data types. Removing a permission there does not delete data already stored in Health Connect [2].
How each day is merged
- If several weights were recorded on one day, PepLabo keeps the last one.
- Readings outside 20 to 350 kg are treated as measurement errors and skipped. Pounds, stones and other units are converted.
- A day on which you logged weight yourself is left as you entered it; the imported reading does not replace it.
- Syncing the same days again does not create copies: each imported day has one entry, which a newer reading of that day replaces.
- Imported entries are your real data, so they do not carry the “Sample” label used for the sample lab’s example entries.
- Sleep follows a similar rule: a night that crosses midnight is filed under the day you woke up, and pieces of the same night from a watch and a phone are joined when the gap between them is an hour or less. Stretches under 15 minutes are ignored as noise. Health apps do not store how rested you felt, so that rating stays empty until you add it.
When data comes in, and when nothing does
Data arrives when you open the app or return to it, and Sync now fetches it on demand. The screen shows the connection state and the time of the Last sync, with a count of days or nights read for each type.
If a sync brings nothing, PepLabo says that the last sync brought nothing and asks you to check its read permissions in the health app. That is the most common cause, especially on iPhone, where a type switched off in the permission sheet does not show up as an error; the data simply does not come.
Other states have their own message: Access off when reading was refused, Not available on this device, or, on Android, Health Connect not installed and Health Connect needs an update. Health data is not read in the web preview.
Where the data stays
Imported values are stored on your phone and never uploaded to PepLabo’s servers. They are not added to PepLabo AI conversations either: the summary sent with a question leaves out Apple Health and Health Connect data [5]. On Android, if device backup is on, app data may be included in the backup in your Google account.
The health data notice lists what can leave the device, and values read from these two sources are not among them: they are not sent to PepLabo’s server, to Gemini or to RevenueCat [6].
Disconnecting, and what happens to imported days
To stop, tap Disconnect and choose Disconnect, keep data or Disconnect and delete imported. The confirmation then tells you how many imported entries were removed. On iPhone, the permission itself is removed in Apple Health; on Android, in Health Connect [2].
If Pro ends, automatic syncing stops, but nothing is deleted: the days already imported and everything you logged yourself stay where they are. The privacy policy describes revoking the system permission and removing imported entries as two separate choices [5].
Reading weight next to your doses
The weight chart can show 30, 90 or 365 days or everything, and it needs two weigh-ins in the chosen range to draw a line. If your scale does not sync, the optional Weigh-in reminder asks you on the day and at the time you choose.
PepLabo shows the readings; it does not judge them or link them to a dose change. What a trend means is something to look at with your clinician.
