Two ways to take your records out
PepLabo offers two different exports, and they serve different readers. The data file is a complete, machine-readable copy meant for PepLabo itself: you keep it as a backup or load it on another phone. The PDF report, which is part of Pro, is a readable summary of your dose log for a chosen period, made for you or your clinician.
This guide is about the data file. If you want something to bring to an appointment, the guide on turning your dose history into a report covers the PDF side.
Making the export
- Open Settings and tap Transfer data. The row sits in the Subscription group, and Settings › Privacy has a shortcut to the same screen under Your data.
- Under Export, tap Export all data.
- On iPhone or Android, the share sheet opens. Choose where the file goes, for example your Files app, a cloud drive you use or a message to yourself.
- PepLabo confirms with a short Data exported message once the file has been shared.
What the file holds, and what it leaves out
The file is plain text in JSON format, and it records which app version made it. Each part of your records is stored as its own section, which lets PepLabo check every section separately when you bring the file back.
| Part of your records | In the file? | On restore |
|---|---|---|
| Settings and preferences | Yes | Replaced by the file’s settings |
| Vials and dose logs | Yes | Replaced; a log whose vial is missing from the file is skipped |
| Programs and their order on the shelf | Yes | Replaced; a link to a missing vial is removed |
| Lifestyle logs: meals, water, weight, sleep, activity, workouts, side effects, saved foods and goals, including entries imported from Apple Health, Health Connect or WHOOP | Yes | Replaced |
| Personal answers from setup, such as name, goals and measurements | Yes | Replaced |
| PepLabo AI chats stored on the phone | Yes | Replaced |
| Travel plans | Yes | Replaced |
| Badges, XP and the memories the app has collected | Yes | Replaced |
| Progress photos | No | Photos already on that phone stay |
| Apple Health, Health Connect and WHOOP connections | No | Set up again on each device |
| Pro subscription and AI consent | No | Restored or given again on the new device |
Bringing the file into a new phone
On the new device, open Settings, Transfer data and paste the exported text into the import box, then tap Check data. PepLabo reads the file first and shows what it found: how many vials, dose logs, programs, lifestyle logs, chats and trips. If any record is damaged or points to something missing, it tells you how many will be skipped.
You then choose between two actions. Apply settings brings over only your preferences. Restore all data replaces the records on that phone with the ones in the file, after two confirmations, because the records already on the device are deleted and this cannot be undone. Nothing is merged, so if the new phone already has entries you care about, export those first.
A file made by a newer version of PepLabo is refused with a message saying so; update the app and try again. Files from earlier versions, including the first export format that held only settings, vials, doses and programs, can still be read.
When the app cannot read some records
If some records on the phone cannot be read when PepLabo opens, they are set aside rather than deleted, and a Recovery copy section appears on the Transfer data screen. Save the set-aside records stores them in a separate file so they are not lost while the problem is looked at.
If a screen fails to open, PepLabo shows a calm error screen instead of a blank page. It says your records are still on the device and offers Export your data, which creates the same file as the Transfer data screen. Its Safely reset settings option touches only preferences such as theme, language and notifications; vials, doses, programs and lifestyle records stay.
Looking after an exported file
An export is a copy of health-related information: what you take, when, and how you felt. Once it leaves the app, it follows the rules of wherever you put it. The privacy policy states that file exports, system sharing and device backups are governed by the service you choose, and that PepLabo cannot reach copies stored there or on another device [1].
A few habits help. Keep the file somewhere protected by your own passcode or account, delete old copies you no longer need, and think twice before sending it through a chat that others can read. The health data notice lists the person or service you share an export with as a recipient you choose, not one PepLabo controls [2].
Export before you delete
PepLabo has a setting that deletes everything on the device: doses, vials, programs, lifestyle logs, photos and settings. Its confirmation screen suggests exporting first with Transfer data, and that is worth doing, because deleted data cannot be recovered.
Deleting your account is a separate step from deleting device data. An account is only needed for PepLabo AI and for a WHOOP connection, and your records are not stored with it. When you delete the account, the app asks whether to keep the data on the phone or remove it too. Uninstalling the app does not remove exports or backups you saved elsewhere [1].
When an export is the only copy
PepLabo does not run a cloud backup from which all your records can be restored, and the privacy policy says so plainly. Because the records exist only on your phone, requests to access or copy them are also completed on the device, with the same export [1][2].
The policy also asks you to check the scope shown on the transfer screen, because the transfer is not a complete backup of everything, photos in particular [1]. If you rely on PepLabo for a long treatment history, a recent export stored somewhere safe is your backup. Making one after a dose change or before a phone upgrade takes a few seconds.
